WWII WASP Pilot Gertrude Tompkins Silver
Gertrude “Tommy” Tompkins Silver was the only Women Airforce Service Pilots member to go missing during World War II. Flying a P-51D Mustang from Los Angeles to Palm Springs, she never arrived at her destination, and no trace of Gertrude or the aircraft were found.
