Iris C. Cummings Critchell in WASP (Women Airforce Service Pilots) uniform. A former Olympic swimmer, she also worked as a flight instructor before joining the WAFS and then the WASP. She raced airplanes competitively in the 1950’s, then with her husband helped found the Bates Aeronautics program at Harvey Mudd College in 1962.
