WAVES gray summer working uniforms are modeled by Ensign Eloise English (left) and Yeoman 3rd Class Virginia Laws, at the Lincoln Memorial, Washington, D.C., circa early 1944. This gray and white pin-striped seersucker shirtwaist dress and jacket uniform was authorized 15 October 1943 and became the Uniform of the Day in Washington on 15 May 1944. It featured black shoes, tie and gloves, the latter being optional. Buttons were dark blue.
