Sailors Get Hawaiian-Style Send-Off on USS Saratoga
On the USS Saratoga (CV-3) on September 10, 1945, a mass Aloha takes place on the carrier’s flight deck in Pearl Harbor, as 500 WAVES put leis around the necks of departing sailors in traditional Hawaiian style. A resounding kiss sped each man on his way. The USS Saratoga was transporting Navy personnel back to the mainland for discharge.
