Marine Recruits Taking Out the Trash

Privates Dorothy Pierson of Charlemont, Massachusetts, Catherine Gleason of Woodside, Long Island, New York, and Helen Nowacin of Buffalo, New York, find cleaning their squad room all in a day’s work at Camp Lejeune, New River, North Carolina. The girls photographed outside their barracks are members of the first detachment to receive “boot training” in the newly established recruit depot, the first to be set up as a Marine post.
