WAAC Lieutenant Lights Cigar for Her Father
2nd Lieutenant Mary L. Porter of the 44th WAAC Post Headquarters Company (later Headquarters Section, 3561st Service Unit, Women’s Army Corps) lighting a cigar for her father, Colonel E.D. Porter, commanding officer of the 331st Infantry Regiment, 83rd Division. Both father and daughter were stationed at Camp Atterbury, Indiana in 1943. Lt. Porter arrived with the first WAAC unit in March 1943 and became commanding officer of her unit in June of that year. 22 June 1943.
