Louise Betcher (later Waller) was born and raised in Red Wing, Minnesota, attended the University of Minnesota, and graduated from the St. John’s Hospital School of Nursing in Red Wing in 1941. She enlisted in the Army Nurse Corps in 1943 and had her basic training in Camp Kilmer, New Jersey. She was assigned to Schoffield Barracks Hospital in Hawaii and shipped out of Camp Haan, CA in 1944. On her final assignment with the Army in 1946 she was transferred to Memphis, Tennessee, to help with the changeover of the Army Hospital to a VA Hospital. It was there she met her future husband who had also started working there after his discharge from the Army in 1945. They were married there in the hospital chapel in 1947.
This remembrance provided by her daughter.
